If you are attempting to create a new Mylio account using Sign In With Apple and are given the error: “There was an issue setting up your account” you can try again to create the account but first must remove Mylio’s permission to use your Apple ID before attempting again. Here is how you do that:

  • Go to appleid.apple.com
  • Click manage under “Apps & Websites Using Apple ID”
  • Find Mylio and remove it from the list by clicking on the “X”
  • go back to mylio.com/get-app or open the Mylio application again if you have already downloaded and installed it
  • Click or tap on Sign In With Apple again

Face Recognition

$
0
0

Mylio’s face recognition helps keep your photos organized by creating custom albums in the People view of your friends and family. Tagging your photos is easy, as Mylio will match untagged faces with previously identified people – all you have to do is confirm for accuracy. Like all face recognition, telling Mylio who is in your photos increases the accuracy of this feature over time.

Mylio’s face recognition can be used in three primary ways…

Tag Faces Individually

Tag Detected Faces

  1. Open a photo in any view. This can be in all photos, a folder, or even in the Untagged container within People view.
  2. Toggle Face Recognition on by selecting the face recognition icon in the Quick Actions Bar.
  3. If Mylio detects a face, it will ask you to identify who is in the photo. You can do this by selecting the recommended name, or by pressing the corresponding number on your keyboard.
  4. If multiple faces are detected, Mylio will recommend names for each face one at a time. By adding the first face, Mylio will advance to the next face automatically.
  5. If Mylio detects a face that you do not want to name, or detects something that is not a face, you can select Ignore to move past the selection.
  6. Once a photo has been tagged, it will be added to the custom album within People view for that person.

Manually Tag Undetected Faces

Tag Undetected Faces

In some cases, Mylio may not appropriately find all faces in a photo. This is especially true if a photo is at an angle, has insufficient (or too much lighting), or a face is partially obscured. In these cases, you can manually tell Mylio where a face is on a photo.

  1. Open a photo in any view. This can be in all photos, a folder, or even in the Untagged container within People view.
  2. Toggle Face Recognition on by selecting the face recognition icon in the Quick Actions Bar.
  3. Locate the face that is not appropriately recognized by Mylio.
  4. Click and hold, or tap and hold, on the unrecognized face until a square “Who is this?” dialog is opened.
  5. Add the name to the dialog.

Note:  manually adding a face tag in Mylio does not increase the match rate for that specific person.

Note:  face tags added manually are not saved to a photo’s metadata in a way that will transfer to other applications that support face tagging.

Tag Faces in Bulk

Mylio will scan photos automatically and group them within People view. This allows you to quickly identify if a person is, or is not, who Mylio believes they are.

Bulk Tagging Proposed Faces

If Mylio knows who someone is, they will have an album created for them in People view. Once Mylio knows the name and face of a person, it will scan each photo to see if it has a match as you browse through your images. If Mylio finds a match, the person’s album in People view will ask you to confirm if the photo is, or is not, that person. Albums that have photos that need to be identified will have an “identification needed” icon in the top left of the album.

When a person container with the identification needed icon is opened, any photo that is not confirmed to be the matched person will display three options at the bottom of the image: confirm, change, and deny. These icons let you confirm that the person in that individual photo is correct, change the image to a different person, or tell Mylio that this image is not this person. Confirming a person will remove the icons, confirm that the photo is of the person, and use the image to better identify more images of that person.

Batch Tagging In Any View

Batch Tagging In Any View

Mylio allows you to easily tag the faces in any container in bulk. This can be done from folder view, album view, or calendar view. Here is how:

  1. Open Mylio and navigate to a folder, album, or another container you wish to tag. This can even be from All Photos.
  2. Open the container so that it is in grid view.
  3. Select the Batch Tagging icon from the Quick Actions Bar.

Mylio will group your photos and begin to ask who each person is. You can use the bar at the top of Mylio to make a decision for all collected photos, or you can decide on each photo individually using the confirm, change, or deny buttons on the person’s image.

Bulk Ignore Untagged Faces

Bulk Ignore Untagged Faces

In some cases, you may have photos with many faces that all need ignored. This is common in pictures of crowds like concerts, races, or other public events. Mylio makes it easy to tag who you know and ignore all other faces.

  1. Locate the photo with multiple people who need to be ignored.
  2. Tag the people who you do know before bulk-ignoring.
  3. Open Mylio’s Details panel and select Ignore Untagged Faces from the top of the info pane.

Additional Information About Face Recognition

  1. Mylio scans an image for faces when the photo has been fully opened with Mylio. Once opened, the photo will be added to the Untagged group in People view.
  2. If you would like Mylio to scan and match all of the photos in your library, toggle on All from within the Advanced settings menu.
Note:   this is an intensive process and may take some time to complete. Additionally, this process can only be done from a computer.
  3. If Mylio does not recommend who is actually in the photo, you can type the person’s name in “Who is this?” box. Mylio will remember this and make better suggestions next time.
  4. If Mylio is not detecting faces for any photo, ensure that Face Recognition is turned on with the face icon in the Actions Bar in the top right (in full photo view).

The People view in Mylio allows you to easily see your favorite photos of your family and friends in one, easy to read view. By tagging the people in your library, you are telling Mylio that this person is in a specific picture, and Mylio will automatically make a container displaying all photos of them.

People view can be populated in two primary ways…

  1. Automatically recommending a face tag by using Mylio’s facial recognition feature, which places the name of a person at a specific coordinate on a photo.
  2. Manually adding a name to a photo, which informs Mylio that a person is present if not recognized.

For more information on populating People view, please see information regarding Mylio’s face recognition.

The Mylio Community Forum is a new page (community.mylio.com) for our users to interact with each other and the Mylio team. As the community grows we hope to do more here, but at launch the main categories for conversations will be:

  • News featuring application and company announcements as well as update details from the Change Log
  • Get Help a place for users to help other users running into issues
  • Tips, Tricks and Best Practices sharing workflows and favorite features
  • Feedback for both the mylio.com website and the application

Occasionally, you may see posts or replies from Mylio Employees but the forums are primarily a place for user to user interactions. The Support team for the Mylio application is still available via the support.mylio.com website and via email at suppport@mylio.com but you may get just as great of an answer by asking the community in the forum.

The Mylio Community Forum is also a separate platform from the Mylio application. This means that your user name and password may be different when logging into community.mylio.com and the Mylio app (or account.mylio.com). You do not need a forum account to read any posts but do need to sign-in to post topics or interact with others.

For the forum, you can use a third-party sign-in (Facebook or Google) or create an account with a valid email. We hope to add more sign-in options in the future to align with the sign-in options currently available in the Mylio application.

Understanding Album View

$

What Are Albums?

Albums are a unique way for you to sort, store, and organize your photos within Mylio. When adding photos to albums, you are not duplicating the image but only referencing the original file. This means you can add the same file to many different albums without increasing the space needed for Mylio on your device.

Albums can be used in many unique ways. For instance, you can use them as temporary projects. Adding a set of photos that you want to get printed or publish online is easy to do with a combination of albums and Mylio Clipboard.

Albums can also be used to show an event that has happened multiple times. For example, some users may have an album for their birthday that is a combination of all birthday events, but choose to keep their birthdays separated in Folders to more easily find a specific birthday.

Creating and Populating Albums with Mylio Clipboard

  1. Open Mylio and navigate to Album view in the View Selector.
  2. Select the plus sign in the Quick Actions Bar to create and name a new album.
  3. Adding photos to an empty album can be done through Mylio Clipboard or by selecting a photo or set of photos and selecting Add to Album in the Actions menu.
  4. Adjusting the organization of the album can be done from the View menu in the top right of Mylio. When inside an album, selecting Manual allows you to set a custom sort order and move your photos around freely.

Albums in Albums

Albums, much like folders, can be nested into each other to make a tree of related albums. For instance, you can have an album called Holidays with different albums inside consisting of many different holiday albums.

To add an album to an album, you can drag an already created into another album to nest it. You can also use the plus sign at the bottom of the center panel within an album to make a new album within your already opened album.

Organizing Albums

The tools listed above for populating albums are also essential in keeping our albums organized. Organizing albums can be accomplished in a few different ways:

  1. Drag and Drop – Simply drag a folder onto another folder to nest one album inside of another.
  2. Mylio Clipboard – The Mylio Clipboard allows you to move albums between other albums or other views. If you would like to remove an album from within another album, simply drag the nested album to the Mylio Clipboard to hold it temporarily. You can then drag the album out of Mylio Clipboard to any location you would like.
  3. Custom Order Album – Files that are within albums can be ordered in any way you wish by setting the sort order to Custom. This can be done by opening the View menu while viewing the inside of an Album and setting the sort order to custom. You can then drag and drop your albums in any order you desire.

Removing Media From Albums

Because you are referencing a file and not working with an original file in Album view, you can safely remove media from an album without worrying about deleting the file from your computer or other Mylio devices. To remove a photo:

  1. Ensure you are in Album view.
  2. Open an album and select the images or videos that you would like to remove.
  3. Select the trash can from the Quick Actions Bar or press the Delete key on your keyboard.
  4. Mylio will remove the image(s) or video(s) from the album without deleting them from the rest of the library.

Deleting Albums

Much like removing media from an album, deleting an album will not delete the files that the album contains from Folder view. Instead, the album itself and its reference to the Original files will be removed – meaning you will not lose any data. To delete an album:

  1. Ensure you are in Album view.

Mylio’s Notification & Activity Center keeps your alerts and progress out of the way so you can continue to enjoy your media without disruption. Opening the Notifications and Activity Center shows you what Mylio is working on and any issues you should be aware of.
The notification and activity center can be moved anywhere within the Mylio window to allow you to keep it open but still continue other tasks and complete your work.
  • Notifications: Provides reminders when devices need to be synced, updates ran, or errors were reported. You can view them all together or separate notifications between System or Errors.
  • Activity: This section will keep track of ongoing processes Mylio is running. This can include scanning for changes to your library, importing, exporting, and more.

Creating Display Images for edits made outside of Mylio

At this time, Mylio will not display edits made to XMP files by other applications, including Lightroom. Mylio will synchronize the edits written to XMPs to the other devices on your account, it just won’t display them.
If you want Mylio to display edits made outside of Mylio, you can use the third-party application and export a “JPG” version of the photo and put the exported jpg in the exact same folder as the Original with the exact same filename and “_display” (no quotes) appended.
Ex: If you have a file named DSC1234.CR2, perform your edits in the third-party app and export a jpeg as DSC1234_display.jpg to the exact same folder. Mylio will “stack” the display jpeg image with the RAW and then show the “display” image in the Mylio UI.

Guest Mode

Note:  This feature is  NOT available if your Mylio account is created using a third party single sign-on login (Apple, Google, Facebook, Microsoft).

Guest Mode is an option that allows you to put a device with Mylio installed in a view only mode, allowing others to look through your photos while preventing them from editing, moving, or deleting photos.

Options Disabled While in Guest Mode

  • Move, delete, rename, and show files in Finder/Explorer
  • Edit photos
  • Import and Export photos
  • Access the Settings menu

Optional Guest Mode Features

In some cases, you may wish for users in Guest Mode to have limited features. Mylio allows for a combination of features to be used to optimize Guest Mode…

  • Guest Mode – Full lockdown. Images and library cannot be changed or shared.
  • Allow Sharing – Allow for images to be shared.
  • Allow Rating – Allow for images to be rated.

Enabling Guest Mode

  1. Navigate to Mylio’s settings by selecting Settings in the View menu.
  2. Select Account.
  3. Toggle Guest Mode on.

  4. Create your 4 digit pin. This is used for turning Guest Mode off. If you forget your pin, you can reset it with your Mylio account password.

Disabling Guest Mode

  1. Navigate to Mylio’s settings by selecting Settings in the View menu.
  2. Select Account.
  3. Toggle Guest Mode off.
  4. Type in your PIN to disable Guest Mode. If you have forgotten your PIN, select Reset to disable Guest Mode with your Mylio password.

Some files in an Apple Photos library or iOS Camera Roll: Portrait, slow-mo, Live Photos, etc… may be imported with a .myb (Mylio Bundle) file to properly sync these unique file types. The following effects from Apple Photos are supported:

Live Photos -syncing only
Portrait Mode – syncing and displaying
Slow-mo videos – syncing and playback supported
Long Exposure -syncing of still and Live Photo, displaying of the still only
Animations (loop, bounce) – syncing only

Note:   Mylio currently does not display Live Photos but does sync and preserve this information. We plan on having full displaying support for Live Photos in the near future

What’s New in Mylio?

Welcome to Mylio 3.8, the update that gives you even more to love about Mylio. This release is engineered to streamline your workflow so you can focus on enjoying your photos.

New Features:

Multiple Categories

Organizing just got even easier in Mylio. Add one or more categories to your folders, events, or even individual media to make finding that perfect memory a breeze. Once you’ve added the perfect categories to your folders, use the new category filter tool to find all of the files associated with those categories. This makes separating those [family] [holiday] photos from your [work] [holiday] photos lightning quick – even with thousands of photos. You can check this feature out from the new “Categories” section of the Info Panel while in grid or single photo view.

Apple Photos Support

Good news for Apple Photos users: Mylio can now import directly from Photos on macOS Catalina. Even better? Mylio maintains a connection with Apple Photos, so any new photos added to Apple Photos will automatically be added to Mylio. Our new Apple Photos integration works a lot like our existing iOS and Android import, so be sure to read up on how this feature can work for you. You can link Mylio to Apple Photos by selecting “Photos” as the import source in Mylio’s import menu.

The Right Stuff

Now you can right-click on photos or folders to “download originals or previews” from a device that has them. This makes your workflow even more efficient than ever. There is now a switch in the settings so you can toggle syncing with cloud services off/on. We also added a shortcut to “ignore untagged people” for macOS and Windows (cmd+0 and ctrl+0 respectively).

Life Events

To personalize your calendar view, we’re introducing a higher priority choice called Life Event. If you have multiple Events of the Day, Month, or Year, you can pick one as a Life Event to ensure the cover for that calendar day is set appropriately. For instance, if 2019 was a big year for you with a wedding, an international vacation, and the birth of your first child, all of these items may be marked as Event of the Year. Choosing one of these events as a Life Event will ensure that it’s displayed as the cover image for 2019. This feature can be found within the Priority drop-down for all events.

The Mylio Dashboard is your one view to fully understand everything about your Mylio Library. From your library’s media count to your device’s sync status, the Mylio Dashboard is full of fun and practical information to help you keep control of your growing photo library.

To access the Mylio Dashboard, simply select the Dashboard icon in the top right corner of Mylio.

The Dashboard icon will also display a red badge with a number on it when images need to sync to the device you’re using. This serves as a quick reminder that you have imported new photos on another device and should sync them when you have the time.

Parts of the Dashboard

The Mylio Dashboard is made up of many different panels. These panels include…

  • Devices – Your device list and their current sync status. To learn more about this panel see the Devices tab on this page.
  • People – Part of your Library Stats, this page shows you the people that make up your photo library and how many images you have of them.
  • Places – Part of your Library Stats, this page shows you the locations that make up your library and how many photos and videos were taken in each spot.
  • Keywords – Part of your Library stats, this page shows you the keywords that are used in your images.

Devices

Mylio’s Devices tab will show you important information about all of the devices registered to your Mylio account. This is an important page and can be used to view your devices, their sync status, and make changes to how they operate.

Let’s take a closer look.

  1. Add a new device with the plus sign in the top right corner of the Devices panel.
  2. The device you’re currently using is always listed at the top of the page.
  3. The icon in the circle will tell you what type of device it is. Whether a computer, a phone, or an external drive, Mylio will display that for reference here.
  4. The shield icon at the top right of a device dictates that this device is a Vault and will store all Originals and optimized versions to sync to other devices. A yellow shield shows that it needs to sync, or a white shield shows that it is in sync.
  5. The circle around the device shows how much space it has. This information is also shown in the device stats listed below the device.
  6. Selecting the device will open the Device Settings.
  7. The next section of the Devices list will show other Vaults on your Mylio account. Here, you can see:
    • The device type icon
    • The space used vs free space
    • The current status of the device
    • When the device was added to the account
    • The device’s sync status
      • Selecting the Sync Status will show you which devices to turn on to receive the media to this device.
  8. The final section of the Devices panel will show you the non-Vault devices. This includes Auto-optimized devices and devices utilizing Selective Sync to set a specific Sync Policy. Much like the Other Vaults section, here you can see:
    • The device type icon
    • The space used vs free space
    • The current status of the device
    • When the device was added to the account
    • The device’s sync status
      • Selecting the Sync Status will show you which devices to turn on to receive the media to this device.

Library Stats

Your Library stats are made up of a few different panels and tell you about your library and its contents.

  • People – How many people are tagged in your library and how many photos of each.
  • Places – How many locations you’ve visited and how many photos were taken in each location.
  • Keywords – Which keywords have been used in your library.

Additionally, Mylio has some less frequently used panels that can be toggled on by clicking the gear in the top right corner of the Dashboard and turning them on. These include:

  • Import Sessions – A list of your imports that have been made in your library.
  • Bandwidth – How much bandwidth Mylio is using when syncing your images between devices.
  • Task – A list of important tasks that Mylio is currently taking or has queued.
